| Radio silence commencing in... |

| | pissed off | ] | My computer died today. It had been acting upf or awhile, and it did it's whole "I'm going to reset now" thing, and then it did it again, and again, and again, across shorter and shorter timespans.
And now it's not going at all, not sure if the motherboard alone is gone, or if it took the graphics card with it as well. Hard to tell.
Anyway, I am now sans computer, which means I am sans torchlight also. This very much annoys me.
Will now have to figure out how this problem will fix itself. My ideal solution is so far beyond my capabilities it's funny.
Anyway, that's all. If anyone has anything urgent for me, leave it in a comment here, also if you post anything important in the next few days, I'm likely to be sparse on my reading of LJ until I get a working computer at home again.
At present, I can't even use the iPod Touch to connect to the net via other peoples wireless, because it ran out fo battery and the charging cable I've got for it is dodgy.
So yeah, life is woe, but I'm having fun generally, so y'know. |

| Birthday was fun. |
[Nov. 15th, 2009|01:05 am] |
I went to SHelter, and saw Ronnie Size. http://www.smartshanghai.com/event/10267
Twas fun. Anyway, now I'm wiped out tired, I don't remember the night past about say, 1.30 AM, until I come back to my senses at about 6:30AM, being ushered out of the place by staff members cleaning the place up. I didn't have my keys at the time (turns out I left them in my apron at work). Went home, got 4 hours sleep, played a tiny bit of Torchlight (my dad bought it for me for my birthday, he's awesome.) and got back to Nuzi to tend bar. Finally put a semi-respectable take through, though my take was 50 up, which was kind of weird.
I had it pointed out to me today that maybe I really do know more wierdoes than other people. The woman I was serving went goggle eyed when I started telling stories about the New Rocks and combat knife incident, or as I like to call it, where Maya got a taste for human flesh. |

| J'accuse |
[Nov. 15th, 2009|05:52 am] |
I disagree that Phil should be facing charges for the manner in which he drove Sonny on Friday. In the first instance, Auckland Reactor has only ever show weakness when he's been attacked. In Australia he showed that he had a possible mental fragility when he was being eyeballed.
Furthermore, Sonny had a jog on Cup Day, and so theoretically was the best chance in that field to either have a look from parked or even lead up.
Finally, an if/else arguement. If the pace was too hot in the 'speed duel' for the lead, then Purdon should have recognised the effect this would have on his own horse and handed up to Sonny and taken the trail. In this instance, I believe Mark should be facing the same charges as Phil. Otherwise, the pace was not too hot, both horses went disappointing and there is no case to answer.
Regardless, logic dictates that in order to beat the horse in front of you, you must try to get in front of it.

| Redemption |
[Nov. 14th, 2009|05:36 am] |
After a 'mare of a Cup carnival, which saw us beaten again yesterday by Monkey King, and Tom and Fonz racing to nowhere, I slept through our last chance's race, the last at Alexandra Park.
And I missed Franco Nouvel taking his maiden victory by the whisker of the flea riding on his tip of his nose.

| Roleplaying, and how I miss it. |
[Nov. 12th, 2009|08:57 pm] |
So I have this problem, and it was manifesting itself before I left NZ even.
See, I really love roleplaying games, they give me an escape, and a way to interact with people, and a way to feel creative, and express parts of myself, and experience things.
It's like reading, but you get some input on the story, and you don't quite know where it's going, y'know.
Anyway, I don't have any games at present.
And I'm having problems finding them. THe IRC server I lurk on and previously got gaming fixes from has dried up for RP, at least, IRC. And due to my way of approachign life, forum RP just never works out with me, I lose interest in it too fast.
So I'm wondering if any of the rest of you are n a similar situation for wanting RP, but not being able to organize it, and maybe we could rig up some form of online thing in the afternoons or evenings NZ time (someday out of Sunday to Thursday works for me) Probably with an intent to move the game to wave once everyone manages to get on their, because I read articles about it, and it sounded interesting.
Only, then there's the second problem:
I don't actually really want to run a game myself, so anyone feel like GMing but don't have the time?
Clearly this is all just free floating, and probably will come to nought for lack of organization and collective interest.
Oh yeah, links: http://www.antipope.org/charlie/blog-static/2009/11/designing_society_for_posterit.html - What kind of government should a generation ship have? | "In Flanders Fields" |
[Nov. 12th, 2009|11:18 am] |
In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved, and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields. — Lt.-Col. John McCrae (1872 - 1918) |

| Open letter to whoever is in charge of NZDST |
[Nov. 11th, 2009|05:24 am] |
You changed NZDST over a year ago, yet you didn't feel the need to tell anybody who makes computer stuff.
My PC, my blackberry all keep trying to change time back an hour, my PC was easy I just turned on the internet updates for DST, but my sodding blackberry, even though I told it not to update the time using it's server seems to want to change it back because it also has a time zone setting ie GMT +12 that it likes to check and you can't turn off. this has resulted in my getting up at 5am instead of a comfortable 6am this morning.
I have changed the timezone to +11 and I hope this will mean the time stays correct, but shit people why is nobody on this?
and even if there is nobody on this, surely you'd take less time that over a year to fix it. |

| Pale blue seeping through the window. |
[Nov. 11th, 2009|12:22 am] |
| [ | Current Mood |
| | discontent | ] | Well, I've got some form of cold. My glands are swollen, I keep sneezing, my nose is dripping like a tap.
I didn't really leave the house today, it was raining, and Shanghai in the rain isn't the best vibe ever to wander around in. I have the distinct impression that the rain will coat me in polluted gunk.
I've been playing Spore, in Chinese, it turns out to be mostly playable, until you get to the Space Age, wherein it starts giving you quests, dialogue prompts, and icons that aren't quite intuitive enough for use.
But yeah. Pale blue light seeps through my window, it catches at my eyes, and haunts them when they're closed.
The Time Travellers Wife is compelling to read, but not always pleasant. I just chain read about 200 pages, afterwards feeling too hollow to keep reading, but also too hollow to sleep.
Still unemployed, not sure how to solve this, not sure if CAN solve this. Don't like thinking so far ahead as to encounter the grim reality of this.
Ate at a nearby restaurant tonight, because the pizza place I wanted to go to was closed. Their menu isn't in English, one of their chef's knew "Beef" and "Chicken" as English words, and shouted these at me while pointing at pictures in the menu. I got too little food, forgot my phrasebook so couldn't even puzzle through like I normally would.
My birthday is on Friday, that's 3 days away (well, 2 now). I turn 24. I'm finding it hard to think of much that I've amounted to in life so far. Which is to say, it's a birthday, I'm having birthday angst. Y'know?
Tomorrow I am going to have Burrito for dinner, I think. And knock back a tequila or two. Drinking is big and clever, and y'know, I just ugh. |
